How we verify what we publish?

Every figure, claim, and forecast in Libya Investment Monitor's reporting is checked against primary sources before it reaches print. This page explains how.

Where our information comes from

We rank sources by reliability, not convenience.

Primary sources always take precedence.

1. Primary sources

Central Bank of Libya statements and data, National Oil Corporation disclosures, government ministries, company filings, and official agreements

2. Direct reporting

on-the-record statements from company executives, officials, and project principals, attributed by name and title

3. Verified secondary sources

reporting from established international and regional outlets, used only to corroborate, never as a sole source for a material claim

4. Flagged estimates

figures reported by a single source without independent confirmation, always labeled as reported estimates rather than fact

Our verification standards

A claim doesn't run until it clears three checks: is the source primary or independently corroborated, is the figure current, and can it be attributed by name. Contested or single-sourced claims, including employment projections and unconfirmed financing details, are explicitly framed as reported or estimated rather than presented as confirmed fact. Where official statements and state or affiliated media diverge, we note the discrepancy rather than choosing one version silently.

Corrections policy

When we get something wrong, we say so. Corrections are published transparently with the original error and the update, not quietly edited out.
